Christopher Sabol, a forest ecosystem management major in Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences, recently received the John Mabry Forestry Scholarship from the Railway Tie Association.
Twelve members of the Forestry Class of 1958 recently celebrated their 60th reunion at the Mont Alto campus. Besides reconnecting with each other and the campus, their time together also resulted in a group gift of $34,233 that, thanks to a University match, transformed into a $102,669 Open Doors Scholarship to support Mont Alto students who are facing financial hardships and are at risk of not completing their degrees.
On Dec. 7, Penn State Mont Alto forestry students climbed a 142-foot yellow-poplar on the Penn State Mont Alto campus in Forest Technology Instructor Craig Houghton’s arboriculture class.
Penn State Mont Alto forestry and nursing students participated in a trauma-training event on April 29, giving them hands-on experience with emergency and rescue care.
Eleven Penn State Mont Alto forest technology students joined forestry instructors Beth Brantley, Craig Houghton and Peter Linehan at the Allegheny Society of American Foresters Winter Meeting Feb. 18 in Baltimore, Maryland. Highlighting the day was the students’ participation in the annual Quiz Bowl, which tested their forestry knowledge against other participating schools.
On Dec. 5, Penn State Mont Alto forestry students climbed a 135-foot yellow poplar on the Penn State Mont Alto campus in a 20-year annual exercise of forest technology instructor Craig Houghton’s arboriculture class.
